REPORTED FACTSAt its November 4 meeting, eight members voted to raise UK Bank Rate by 25 basis points, from 3.75% to 4%. One voted for 4.25%, a larger increase. The Bank’s news feed timestamps the decision at noon London time (7 a.m. ET) on November 5.
EDITORIAL INTERPRETATIONAll nine members favoured tighter UK policy. The disagreement concerned the size of the move; it tells us neither the next Fed decision nor the return on US assets.
This is a UK policy decision. No priced expectation, gilt or Treasury price response, sterling reaction or ETF return was measured. The US yield and funding observations in this edition precede the announcement.
