Window of Weakness
This past week was Easter — wishing a warm Happy Easter to all. Alongside the holiday, we closed the week with OpEx (Options Expiration) on Thursday. Friday was a market holiday for Good Friday, and now, heading into the new week, we’re entering what could be one of the more critical junctures of Q2.
This week won’t just be a reset — it could be a directional spark.
⸻
The Bullish Trigger: SPX 5,700+
Right now, the S&P 500 (SPX) is coiling underneath some critical resistance levels. We’ve got a gap fill target up to 5,570, potentially stretching to 5,630. But the line that matters most is 5,700.
A sustained move over 5,700 confirms a bullish impulse — a continuation higher, likely extending into May OpEx.
That’s my base case. But if we fail to get that reclaim, the entire narrative flips.
⸻
The Bearish Scenario: Structural Breakdown
If 5,700 doesn’t hold or price is rejected beforehand, then prepare for a more severe pullback. This isn’t just a 2% drop. I’m talking a break of 4,800 — the last key structural low — and a potential free-fall toward 4,155.
That’s roughly 24–25% down from the April 9th high, and it would formally mark the next wave of the ongoing bear market.
We’d likely bounce from there — a bear market rally — but the bigger macro backdrop is already deteriorating. Bad earnings, slowing growth, and geopolitical overhangs are being ignored, but they won’t be forever.
⸻
Reminder: We’re in a Bear Market. And a Global Recession is Coming.
This isn’t about price action alone. It’s about cycles. We’re at the tail-end of an artificial recovery phase — one that was only sustained by liquidity injections, options flows, and blind faith in soft landings.
But before the true pain begins, markets need to deliver a “complacency wave” — a period where most participants believe the worst is over.
It’s a psychological setup.
Everyone needs to think the bull market is back before it breaks. That’s how liquidity is harvested and capital is trapped.
⸻
OPEX + VIXpiration = Window of Weakness
We just finished OpEx on Thursday. This is where things get technical — and potentially dangerous.
Here’s the cycle breakdown you need to understand:
OpEx + VIXpiration Cycle Pattern
VIXpiration occurs the Wednesday before OpEx (3rd Friday of the month).
Window of Weakness begins after VIXpiration and extends ~14 days beyond OpEx.
Dealer flows (Vanna/Charm) stabilize 4–7 days after this window ends — setting up the bullish flow period into the next OpEx.
This means right now, we’re sitting inside the Window of Weakness — where equities are vulnerable, macro narratives are unstable, and dealer positioning is unclear.
It’s also where bear traps and liquidity hunts thrive.

TLT: I Called the Bond Bottom — Twice.
Now let’s talk about bonds.
Months ago on LinkedIn, I told you to buy $TLT at $85. I sold into strength, then called for the retrace back to $85. Last week, we hit $85 on the tick — and I told you again: Buy here.
From that exact level, TLT bounced over 4% intraday and is currently up ~3%.
There are no price inefficiencies on the TLT chart. No gaps to fill. Just strong, clean structure.
Unless we print a new low (and I’ll say I’m wrong if we do), I believe the bottom is in for the bond market.
The risk/reward here is phenomenal, and with the Fed boxed into its rate-cut path (as I showed in prior posts), bonds are poised to catch a bid as inflation cools and the deflationary wave takes hold.

The Fed, the VIX, and the Final Trap
We didn’t trade Friday, so this week’s VIX action will be critical.
I want to see VIX break under 28 and continue down — that’s your signal for sustained bullish momentum.
But if VIX spikes again, or if it breaks trend, that’s a warning. Dealers may use this as an opportunity to trap retail into buying puts, only to reverse and rally — harvesting the premium and squeezing positioning into May.
It’s all part of the derivatives game. Puts = fuel. This is how the market prints profit before inflicting pain.
What to Watch This Week:
SPX > 5,700 → Bullish continuation bias confirmed
SPX rejected below 5,630 or fails gap fill → Prepare for a breakdown
VIX under 28 → Positive confirmation for equities
Yen weakness / Carry trade unwind → Further pressure on global equities
TLT > 88–89 → Confirms bond market bottom thesis
⸻
Final Word
Markets are currently suspended in a fragile psychological state. The complacency wave is the next trap — and it’s being built right now.
Either we rip through 5,700 and grind into May OpEx — or we break down, violently, toward 4,155.
Either way, you should be ready.
This isn’t a time to chase. It’s a time to position intelligently, hedge asymmetrically, and understand the flows that drive the tape.
